You will have a dental check-up
During the check-up, your dentist will:
Anxious or nervous patients
If you haven't seen a dentist for several years because of fear or anxiety, be reassured that you should find the experience more bearable at our practice. Our modern surgery will be much friendlier environment, with flowers in the waiting room, a pleasant reception area and polite staff.
The Dentists will also be much more gentle and caring.
Some tips to help you ease the dental anxiety
On your first appointment, tell the dentist about anxiety and fears so he will know before hand.
The first appointment will simply be a check-up so don't worry that you'll be launched into having a filling, the drill or a needle. See this first visit as your chance to get to know the dentist. You can also bring a friend or close family for the first appointment and even for the following appointments if there are any. Pick an early morning appointment, so that you will have less time to dwell on it.
During the dental treatment, a numbing gel can also be used to numb your gums before an injection so you don't feel the needle. You can also carry a personal stereo with your earphones that should help you relax better and even disconnect from the sound of the drill.
You can get free dental treatment if you:
- Are under 18 years old
- Are aged 18 and in full-time education
- Are pregnant or are a nursing mother
- Named on a valid NHS tax certificate
- Receiving Income support, Income based job seekers allowance or pension credit
- Named on a valid HC2 certificate

Childsmile
Childsmile is a national initiative by the Scottish government in reducing dental problems and ensuring access to dental services for every child across the country. Good dental health during childhood would allow for healthy teeth and gums through out life. With Childsmile, we ensure that your child has the best start.
We recommend that you register the child as soon as they are born and this gives us a chance to provide you with preventive dental care and hygiene advice. We would then also make appointments for your child from the time its first tooth erupts (around 6 months). This will help your child in getting used to the sights, sounds and smells of a dental surgery. |
Our childsmile dentist will advise you on:
It is recommended that we carry out dental checkups twice a year.
