Clear aligners and braces at 8to8 Dental

Teeth straightening is about more than appearance. A well-aligned smile can make your teeth easier to clean, improve comfort when biting, and support long-term oral health

We’ll plan your orthodontic treatment around your goals, lifestyle and dental health. As a Sapphire Elite provider, we offer advanced Spark clear aligners alongside modern Damon Ultima fixed braces, giving you a choice of discreet and effective teeth straightening options tailored to your smile.

With Dental Monitoring, we can keep a close eye on your progress without you needing to come into the practice as often. You’ll only need to visit when it’s really necessary, while we stay connected through regular scans you can send from home. This means we can respond more quickly if anything needs adjusting, keep your treatment moving smoothly, and give you a clear view of how your smile is changing along the way.

How does teeth straightening work?

Teeth straightening uses gentle, controlled forces to gradually move your teeth into a more balanced position over time. We offer different options to suit your needs.

Spark clear aligners are nearly invisible, removable aligners custom-made for comfort and precision. These removable trays guide your teeth step by step, offering a discreet and flexible approach. Damon fixed braces use tooth-coloured brackets designed to blend in with your smile to move teeth efficiently - perfect for patients seeking a more discreet fixed option.

Who is teeth straightening for?

Teeth straightening can be suitable for both adults and children. It can help with a range of concerns, from mild crowding or spacing to more complex issues such as bite problems, crooked teeth, or teeth that have shifted over time. Your dentist will guide you through the options and recommend the most suitable approach based on your teeth, your goals and how you’d like your treatment to fit into your daily life.

Why choose teeth straightening?

Straightening your teeth can improve the appearance of your smile while also supporting your long-term oral health. When teeth are better aligned, they are easier to clean effectively, which can reduce the risk of plaque build-up, gum problems and decay.

It can also help improve how your teeth come together when you bite, reducing uneven wear, strain on certain teeth and pressure on the jaw. For some patients, this can make everyday functions like eating and speaking feel more comfortable.

Your path to a
straighter smile

01

Your first consultation

Your journey begins with a relaxed, one-to-one consultation with a dentist who has a special interest in orthodontics. During this visit, we take detailed photos, a 3D digital scan and any necessary X-rays, before talking through your goals and what you’d like to achieve. This is where your personalised plan starts to take shape.

02

A virtual chat from home

Once your plan has been developed, we’ll arrange a virtual appointment at a time that suits you to have a detailed discussion about your treatment. This gives you the space to explore your options in more detail, understand how your treatment will work and ask any questions before deciding how you’d like to move forward. You’ll be guided through your options, expected timelines and costs, so you feel fully informed and confident before starting.

03

Starting your treatment

Depending on your needs, you may begin with clear aligners or fixed braces such as Damon systems. When you’re ready to begin, we’ll fit your braces or provide your aligners and guide you through everything you need to know.

04

Remote monitoring and support

With Dental Monitoring, you can send regular scans from home using your phone, allowing us to track your progress in real time and respond quickly if any adjustments are needed. This means fewer in-practice visits, as you’ll only need to come in when it’s necessary, making treatment easier to fit around your day-to-day life. You’ll also be able to see your progress clearly, with before-and-after updates that show how your smile is changing over time.

05

Enjoying your new smile

Once your treatment is complete, we’ll provide retainers (if needed) and talk you through how to keep your new smile looking its best. We’ll also continue to check in with you over time, making sure everything stays stable, comfortable and just as you’d expect.

We usually recommend regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments to stay on top of your oral health.

Frequently asked questions about teeth straightening in Buckie, Keith & Forres

How long does teeth straightening take?

Treatment time varies depending on your needs, but most cases take between 6 and 18 months. Your dentist will give you a clearer timeframe during your consultation.

What is Dental Monitoring?

Dental Monitoring is a cutting-edge app-based system that allows us to track your treatment progress remotely using your smartphone and a device called the ScanBox Pro.

How it works:

  • You’ll receive your ScanBox Pro kit, which easily attaches to your smartphone.
  • Using the Dental Monitoring app, you’ll take regular scans of your teeth from home.
  • Our orthodontic team reviews your scans in real time, ensuring your treatment stays on track without needing to visit the clinic for every check-up.

Why we use it:

  • Fewer in-person appointments; only come in when necessary
  • Faster adjustments and more responsive care
  • Real-time progress tracking from the comfort of home
  • Before and after video updates to show your transformation

Why choose private orthodontics?

Private treatment gives you access to:

  • Shorter waiting times
  • Wider choice of appliances, including discreet and cosmetic options
  • More flexibility with appointment times and treatment planning
  • Personalised care and close monitoring throughout your journey

Whether you’re looking for subtle aligners or advanced fixed braces, we’re here to help you find the right solution for your smile.

Who can benefit from private teeth straightening?

We welcome lots of patients from across Moray, including Elgin, Fochabers, Aberlour, Lossiemouth, Portsoy, Banff and Huntly, many of whom are:

  • Adults wanting to improve their smile at any age
  • Teenagers not eligible for NHS treatment
  • Patients looking for a cosmetic boost with minimal visibility
  • Anyone interested in a full smile makeover with orthodontics as the first step

Why are regular dental check-ups important?

Regular visits to your dentist are crucial for the following:

  • Early detection: Identifying dental issues early when they are easier and less costly to treat.
  • Preventive care: Preventing dental diseases before they develop into more serious problems.
  • Oral health maintenance: Keeping your teeth and gums healthy contributes to your overall health.
  • Education and guidance: Providing personalised advice on looking after your teeth at home.

What’s the difference between clear aligners and fixed braces?

Damon fixed braces are a more modern type of brace that use a low-friction system to move teeth gently. They’re often a great option for more complex cases, including significant crowding, and can help create a broader, more balanced smile. While they are less noticeable than traditional braces, they are still visible, and you’ll need to attend the practice for adjustments throughout treatment.

Spark clear aligners offer a much more discreet alternative, using nearly invisible, removable trays to move your teeth gradually. They’re particularly popular with adults and professionals who want minimal impact on their day-to-day life. With the flexibility to remove them for eating and cleaning, and the option for remote monitoring, they can be a convenient choice for mild to moderate cases.

Both options are suitable for teens and adults, and your dentist will help you choose the most appropriate treatment based on your smile, your lifestyle and the level of correction needed.

Are you accepting NHS orthodontic patients?

We are pleased to offer NHS orthodontic treatment for eligible patients under the age of 18. This service provides access to traditional metal braces at no cost, subject to specific clinical criteria.

To begin the NHS orthodontic process:

  1. Register with one of our dentists at your preferred 8to8 Dental branch.
  2. Attend a general dental check-up (in most cases, patients can’t refer themselves directly and will need to see a general dentist first for an initial assessment).
  3. If appropriate, your dentist will provide a referral to our orthodontic team for an NHS assessment.

Please note: NHS orthodontic waiting lists can be lengthy, and eligibility is not guaranteed until assessed by our Orthodontic Team.

Who qualifies for NHS braces?

To qualify for NHS-funded braces, patients must:

  • Be under 18 years old
  • Have a clear clinical need for treatment, assessed using the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN)

The IOTN measures the severity of dental irregularities. Only patients with moderate to severe cases are eligible. Cosmetic concerns alone do not qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment.

If you or your child do not qualify for NHS braces, or would like to explore additional options, we also offer a full range of private treatments including fixed braces and Spark clear aligners.

For more information or to register with one of our dentists, please contact your local branch today. We’re here to help every step of the way
